Gun club clay shoot

Last Saturday March 5^th saw a large group of club members travel to the Lazy Dog Shooting grounds in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick for a clay pigeon shoot. The group first got a demonstration on safety and then were shown how to use the traps. We divided into groups of two and three and everyone had a turn at the various different traps. Ray Sampson, the manager of the shooting ground made himself available to each and every participant and offered tips on how to improve. After an hour and half, we were all invited up to the main shooting area where we took part in a skirmish. We were broken up into teams of three and had to fire at a constant stream of clays- results were mixed to say the least! Michael Doyle’s team came in first place, while Mick Delahunty proved himself to be a dead eye shot , doing a passable impersonation of Clint Eastwood and earning himself a trophy in the process. A fantastic day was topped off when we all returned to the Cornerstone pub for some much needed food and liquid refreshment. Huge enthusiasm was shown for the liquid refreshments in particular and there were a few tender heads to be seen at the pheasant release the following day.
