New pheasants stock

The club released 190 adult pheasants on Sunday 6th March. A large number of our members turned out, despite having had a late night after the previous days clay shoot. Owen Jackman coordinated the release of birds and each member was given a list detailing where to release and how many were to be released in each spot. Thanks to Owen for all his hard work.  A certain amount of the birds were released into holding pens for a few days where they will be looked after by club members. The birds are in peak condition, healthy and active. Our thanks to our supplier John Clarke for the good service, anyone interested in contacting him can get him at 00441985 840034 or write to him at M.G. Sport, 138 east Hill Farm Cottage, Heytesbury, Nr. Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 OHJ.

Gun club clay shoot

Last Saturday March 5th saw a large group of club members travel to the Lazy Dog Shooting grounds in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick for a clay pigeon shoot. The group first got a demonstration on safety and then were shown how to use the traps. We divided into groups of two and three and everyone had a turn at the various different traps. Ray Sampson, the manager of the shooting ground made himself available to each and every participant and offered tips on how to improve. After an hour and half, we were all invited up to the main shooting area where we took part in a skirmish. We were broken up into teams of three and had to fire at a constant stream of clays- results were mixed to say the least! Michael Doyle’s team came in first place, while Mick Delahunty proved himself to be a dead eye shot , doing a passable impersonation of Clint Eastwood and earning himself a trophy in the process. A fantastic day was topped off when we all returned to the Cornerstone pub for some much needed food and liquid refreshment. Huge enthusiasm was shown for the liquid refreshments in particular and there were a few tender heads to be seen at the pheasant release the following day. Thanks to all who came along and supported the club and a special word of thanks to Mick Delahunty for sponsoring the food. Thanks also to Ray Sampson for his help on the day. Anyone looking for a great day’s shooting can contact him at lazydogshooting@eircom.net or on 087-9079556.

Shooting extention

Letter of concern

A letter Has been sent from our ass. secretary MR Owen Jackman to the Minister of the Environment and the National parks and wildlife service, Highlighting our displeasure at the extension of the shooting season. You can read the contents of this letter in the page under Conservation!

Shooting Extention
The national parks and wildlife service have extended the shooting season for pheasant's and wood pigeons until the end  of February. We held an meeting to discuss this issue and concluded that our shooting season is now closed from the 6Th of January and will also remain closed now and that we are strongly opposed to the extension of the season as it is the belief of the club the conservation of the wildlife should have priority after such a hard winter to help with the future regeneration of pheasants in our area. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for there support and we are looking forward to a new season with lots more work to be done!
